The series

Season Story

Each Premier League club's season on four plates: a master sheet, then the active window, the squad spine and absences. A club comes up when it reaches a milestone, so all twenty arrive in the same few days.

At 6, 10, 14 ... 38 league matches. 09:05 and 17:05 UK

Methodology
  • Built from Opta match data, cup ties, Transfermarkt absence projections and Opta Power Rankings, baked into each club's season file after every round.
  • A club is rendered when its played league matches reach 6, 10, 14, 18, 22, 26, 30, 34 or 38. The plates show the latest round, so a gameweek 6 milestone can carry gameweek 8 numbers.
  • Post 1 is the master sheet. Post 2 has three plates: the last five results and next five fixtures with Opta power ratings, the top 14 by appearances with minutes share, and absences with fixture congestion.
  • The publisher posts the highest-ranked club milestone not yet posted, two slots a day.

Season Rings

A club's league season as a cross-section of a tree, one ring per match from the pith outwards. Wide where the club had the threat, dark latewood for points, charred notches where goals went in.

Tuesday and Thursday, 11:30 UK

Methodology
  • One scale for every club after the same number of matches, so two discs from the same week compare directly.
  • After each gameweek, 10 clubs are picked on a two-week rotation through the league and ranked by a drama score.
  • Each slot posts the top club alone, then four more in a reply.
  • Checks: ring width ranks with match xG share at Spearman 0.90 to 0.93, and every goal is marked on the disc.
  • Weak point: the goal flecks are hard to see on a phone.

Zone Leaders

Survey maps of the pitch, each region named after the player who owns it. Three sheets: creation, progression and defending, drawn as relief maps with the sea around them.

Fortnightly, Wednesday 11:30 UK

Methodology
  • Creation: the xG of shots set up for others, per 90, by where the pass started.
  • Progression: expected threat added by passes and carries, by where they started.
  • Defending: tackles, interceptions, clearances, blocks and recoveries, adjusted for how much the opponent had the ball.
  • Each region is named after the player who leads it. The area in square metres is the size of the territory they hold.
  • Posts as an 8-second loop per map (clouds, lapping sea), with the still as the fallback. Only after a complete gameweek.

Charted Pitch

The pitch as an illuminated medieval map. Cells a league goal has come from this season are land, the rest is sea. It posts when a goal arrives from somewhere new.

Mondays 11:30 UK, only when a new cell is charted

Methodology
  • The pitch is cut into 150 cells. A cell becomes land when a Premier League goal is scored from it this season (Opta, league goals only).
  • Land is shaded by goal count. The first goal from each cell is recorded with the scorer, club and distance. Own goals are marked as own goals.
  • The longest goal of the season is marked with a gold star.
  • Posted once at launch, then when at least one new cell is charted, at most once a week.

Extinction Watch

Red List specimen cards for the things football is doing less of. Each card gives the rate then and now, and a conservation status.

Fortnightly, Friday 11:30 UK

Methodology
  • A watchlist of 103 series from Opta event data, each a rate (for example, short corners per 100 corners).
  • Two horizons take turns: a 10-year structural shift (2015/16 to 2025/26) every four weeks, and a recent shift (2022/23 to 2025/26, plus a statistically gated year-on-year change from gameweek 6) in the fortnights between.
  • Status follows the IUCN scale from the size of the fall: 45% or more is critically endangered, 32% or more endangered, the rest vulnerable. A sharp rise is shown as least concern, surging.
  • A fall caused by a rule change is not given a status. Every edition is approved by hand before it posts.

Last Man Standing

A durability audit across all competitions: who has played every minute, started every game, made every squad. With the Strudwick test: five full 90s inside 20 days.

Fortnightly, Friday 12:30 UK

Methodology
  • Starts from every Premier League outfield player in an opening-weekend matchday squad, and follows them through the Premier League, the three UEFA competitions, the EFL Cup and the Community Shield.
  • The funnel has four tiers: every squad, every game, every start, every minute.
  • The red-zone test is named after Tony Strudwick, the former Manchester United sports scientist: 5 x 90 minutes in 20 days or fewer. The bar chart gives 11 seasons of history (2015/16 to 2025/26).
  • Three posts: the funnel with the survivors, then the gauntlet, then the master sheet. Approved by hand before it posts.

Football on TV

Every match you can watch in the UK today, one row per broadcaster, as a carousel. The one you check before you sit down.

Daily, around 10:00 UK

Methodology
  • Listings come from Live Football on TV's public snapshot, plus confirmed creator streams on YouTube.
  • Club badges are matched by name. Pages are balanced across broadcasters, up to four images a post.
  • A state file stops a retry from posting twice. If X gives an unclear answer, the post waits for a person to check it.
